Ilala picnic basket, handwoven by artisans from Zimbabwe



This unique Tonga picnic basket is woven by women from Binga who utilize traditional weaving techniques to create intricately patterned baskets. They use all natural and locally harvested materials - such as wild grasses, small vines, and palm leaves dyed with tree bark - make up the baskets. These baskets come in various shapes and sizes some are square shaped and others are oval shaped. The baskets are traditionally used for fruit gathering and contemporary they are used as picnic baskets.
